Are you ready to spookify your office this Halloween season? Why not (trick or) treat your co-workers to some homemade spiced biscuits that will have them howling with delight? (Or at least smiling with crumbs on their faces.)
🎃 What You'll Need:
To whip up a batch of these hauntingly delicious treats:
- 225g plain flour (all-purpose flour)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp ground ginger
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
- ¼ tsp ground cloves (optional, for extra spice)
- ½ tsp baking soda
- Pinch of salt
- 100g unsalted butter, cold and diced
- 100g soft brown sugar
- 1 medium egg
- 2 tbsp golden syrup or honey
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional
👻 How to Bake:
- Start by preheating your cauldron...I mean, oven to 180°C (160°C fan) / 350°F / Gas mark 4. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
-
Mix the dry ingredients:
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, spices, baking soda, and salt. -
Rub in the butter:
Add the diced butter and rub into the flour mixture with your fingers until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. -
Add sugar:
Stir in the brown sugar. -
Mix the wet ingredients:
In a small bowl, beat the egg with golden syrup (or honey) and vanilla. Add to the dry mixture and mix to form a dough. If it’s sticky, add a little more flour. If dry, a splash of milk. -
Chill the dough:
Wrap the dough in cling film and chill for 20–30 minutes. This helps with rolling and shaping. -
Roll and cut:
Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about ½ cm thick. Cut into Halloween shapes (pumpkins, bats, ghosts, etc.) using cookie cutters. -
Bake:
Place on the prepared tray and bake for 10–12 minutes until lightly golden at the edges. Cool on a wire rack.
🕸️ Optional decorating:
Let the biscuits cool before decorating with icing, sprinkles, or edible googly eyes. (Because everything is better with googly eyes, right?)
So, what are you waiting for? Get baking and spread some Halloween cheer in the office with these spiced biscuits. Your co-workers will thank you, and you'll be the ghostess with the mostess in no time!
